Introduction
Symmetry is the basis on which theoretical physicists build their fundamental theory. However, condensed matter physicists claim that their works are founded on the breaking of exactly the same thing. As a consequence, protracted disputes burst. This article reviews the core controversies these two groups of physicists have, and clarifies the misunderstandings of each other. No ceasefire is expected, but we do hope the following discussion can help promoting the efficiency of communication between materialists and theorists.
